January 9, 2016
Today Forever Panstoria announced that they are ending support for Memory Manager (and StoryBook Creator) on January 31st, 2016. This means two things for you:
1. After this date, you will no longer be able to upload your completed StoryBook to Panstoria for printing. My recommendation is that you purchase Artisan so you can continue to print books with stitched bindings, archival quality premium satin paper, etc. Quality matters. You do always have the option to continue using StoryBook Creator and save each page as a .jpg and then upload them individually, as photos, to a blank project at a printing service of your choice.
2. When you purchase a new computer, you will need to install Artisan. More info on this is in the Dec. 2014 post below. NOTE: Artisan 4 is IDENTICAL to StoryBook Creator. Artisan 5 is newer and takes some time to adjust to it. Functions & components are a bit different and not in the same locations. BOTH 4 & 5 will access all of your current projects and use your current artwork (with identification codes each kit will transfer). Also note that once a project is opened in Artisan 5, it is converted, so you will no longer be able to open it in Artisan 4. The same is true with Artisan 4 and StoryBook Creator; you can go forward but not backward.
I recommend that you continue reading all the information below, to be fully informed. As always, contact me if you have questions that aren't answered here. Email me at: [email protected]
December 2014
StoryBook Creator 3.0 or 4.0 Users:
You may continue to use StoryBook Creator with no worries! However, when the time comes, it is not possible to install the software on a new computer or re-install it on your current one. At that time, you will need to purchase ARTISAN. The transition will be seamless, as the software is identical except for the name! All your projects and digital content will REMAIN INTACT.
NOTE: Artisan has the benefit of continuing updates to the software, which can no longer take place for StoryBook.
The post below may answer your current questions. If not, please contact me - I'm always happy to help!
FALL 2013 (Archived - some of the info below no longer applies)
My Recommendation:
Upgrade your StoryBook software to Artisan (SBC)
If you currently use SBC3 or SBC4, I recommend that you purchase Artisan from Panstoria while you still have a functioning version of SBC, to make the transfer as smooth as possible. As a reminder, StoryBook Creator is very close to being an obsolete program, as it is no longer supported by Creative Memories. Because tech support for SBC is no longer available, I recommend that you make the switch to Artisan as soon as you are able.
(If you choose to purchase, I would really appreciate it if you would use my link -in blue or PANSTORIA at top of page - so it's credited to my account. I do not work for Panstoria, but they know former CM Consultants are referring customers their way and will reward us for that. Thank you!)
You are welcome to keep running the StoryBook as is. You always have the option to save individual pages as jpegs and upload them as photos to be printed anywhere. However, there will not be any support available if your computer crashes without purchasing Artisan.
NOTE: The HELP CONTENTS button (the ? in the blue circle, upper right) within StoryBook Creator is no longer active.
By purchasing "Artisan" your software will be converted over to the Panstoria format. This entitles you to tech support and updates (not available for StoryBook users). This is the way we can continue with the program that we love with full services & support. By the way, it will look and feel identical to what we know & love. Only the name will change!
Things you may be wondering about, or need to know to help you decide what is best for you:
a. Artisan is 39.95
b. Panstoria has a Print Shop; their photo books have stitched bindings.
c. All your categories, tags, current projects, digital content, recent project icons, activation codes will transfer.
d. All CM art kits will work in Artisan software, provided you have the activation codes.
e. You can run Artisan and StoryBook Creator simultaneously on the same computer. You can’t open the same project at the same time in both programs, but after you open a project in Artisan, you will still have access to it in SBC. Because these programs take up a lot of space and memory on your computer, it is recommended that you delete StoryBook Creator program once you are able.
f. Artisan can be installed on two computers (such as a desktop and a laptop) for your personal use.
g. Artisan will open your existing StoryBook and Page Print projects, including those you have not finished. There are a small number of project types that are not supported by Artisan, because they cannot be printed at the Panstoria Print Shop. Those projects should be completed in SBC as they will not transfer.
h. You can send photos directly from Memory Manager into Artisan; Memory Manager will recognize any open project in Artisan as though they were StoryBook projects.
i. You can continue to use StoryBook Creator as long as it continues to work. If your computer crashes, or you move to a new computer, or your operating system gets a significant upgrade, SBC will no longer work.
j. There is no time limit on the ability of Artisan to unlock projects and digital artwork previously purchased from Creative memories. You will still be able to gain access to these items if you upgrade to Artisan AFTER Dec. 31, 2013
k. If you do not want to purchase Artisan, you can install the update that allows you to upload to print via StoryBook Creator directly to the Panstoria Print Shop; you will also be able to purchase new content for SBC at the Panstoria Store.
l. There will be no technical support, no updates or bug fixes, and no new content releases for StoryBook Creator.
