NOTE: Historian was first created for Creative Memories, as Memory Manager, by Panstoria. Panstoria was later purchased by Forever.
TIP #1 Activate & Use the SHADOW COPY
TIP #1 Activate & Use the SHADOW COPY
The Shadow Copy is a back-up of your Memory Vault, that keeps all of your organization, edits, journaling, etc. for each photo safe in a separate location. (I send mine to an external hard drive. You do not want the Shadow Copy on your computer because you lose both your Vault AND your Shadow Copy when the computer crashes.) The Shadow Copy makes it a piece of cake when switching to a new computer.
SET UP SHADOW COPY
1. Open Historian in your current computer. Plug in an External Hard Drive. Open My Media Library.
2. Across the top ribbon, open VAULT.
3. Find the BACKUP section at the top and open Shadow Copy.
4. Browse to the location of the external hard drive as the location for the Shadow Copy. (You will see a green circle/check mark and saying it will back up when you close out.)
5. Close out of Historian and it will create the shadow copy on the external hard drive. This will take a long time since its backing up everything this first time. (From now on, it will only need to back up what you've changed since the last time it was closed)
MOVING HISTORIAN TO A NEW COMPUTER / RECOVER A VAULT
1. Install Historian on your new computer. You can download it again from Panstoria - log in and go to your account. There will be list of your active downloads. Simply download Historian to the new computer and copy & paste the activation code.
2. Plug in your external hard drive that holds your Shadow Copy.
3. Open Historian. Go to the HOME tab. Across the top, choose RECOVER A VAULT.
4. Select the location for the recovered vault. (your choice)
5. Where it says "Select a source for which to recover information" select "Use a Shadow Copy" and then OK. This may take a while, but everything you've done in Memory Manager will be there when it's finished!
As you use Historian, have your external hard drive plugged into your computer. It will update each time you close out of Historian. (My computer only recognizes it if it's plugged into the same port. If not, I have to browse to the new location.)

Tip #3 - Repairing an old photo
This WWII photo had stuck to the frame glass, and was badly in need of repair. FIRST STEPS: 1. Scan it to create a digital image. 2. Import image into Historian
After following the CLONING directions (below), simply print a new 8x10 photo! (Even removed water mark over shoulder, and cleaned up discolored lapel & shoulder!)
